A place to feel heard and understood

My name is Tara Lange and I am an online and telephone counsellor

I am here to give you a safe, empathetic, confidential space to be seen, heard, and supported through the difficulties you may be facing. This is your time to speak freely, without fear of judgement, and receive a form of therapy personalised to your needs. Whether you are struggling with depression, anxiety, work-related issues, grief, family, or relationship difficulties, I will provide counselling that is tailored to you. Feel free to get in touch for a free, no-obligation consultation ahead of arranging your first session.

Ever since qualifying as a registered counsellor 10 years ago, I have worked in a number of clinical settings, such as the NHS Systemic Family Counselling Service, the NHS Learning Disability Psychology Service, Women’s Aid Birmingham and Solihull, Place2Be, NSPCC, Woodbourne Priory Hospital, Birmingham City University, University of Birmingham, and Coventry University.

Alongside my private practice I work for a private health care insurance company. I have always been passionate about making connections with people, listening closely to what they say and learning from the people I encounter in my work.

As an integrative therapist I am experienced in drawing upon different models such as Acceptance Commitment Therapy, Attachment Theory, Person Centred and mindfulness practice. My core integrative training is in Person Centred, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Attachment Theory. Since my core training I have acquired additional theories which have enhanced my knowledge and practice.

How I Work With You

I place the therapeutic relationship at the heart of our work together. Getting to know you properly is very important. Understanding you in the context of your daily life as well as your history and development is central to our counselling process. This is a process of us gaining a shared understanding of you and your situation.

I believe that this shared understanding can create change and provide room for insight, emotional movement, reframing, and hope. At its heart this is something that will come from within you, while working in relation with me. You will ultimately know yourself and what is best for you. As I work integratively I will draw on a range of therapeutic and psychological models in supporting your process. This way I can tailor the work to your individual needs. This will keep you at the heart of the process.

Cognitive and emotional changes within the counselling sessions will typically shed light on changes and choices you will be able to make outside of the sessions. I can provide a safe regular place for you to work out how you wish to be in yourself, and in relation to others and the world.

We will regularly review our work together. This is to ensure that we keep the work on track, that you feel we are focused on the right areas and going about things in a way that makes sense and resonates with you. This will help us determine the length of the work and what you need in order to be able to bring our work to a helpful ending when the time is right.

Some of the problems that I help clients with include but are not limited to:

Anxiety

Depression

Low self-esteem

Sexuality

Gender issues

Relationship issues

Grief and loss

Work-related issues

It may also be that what you are struggling with is not so clear. In this case I can provide a space for you to work out what you are experiencing, so that we can work out the best way to describe what is happening for you.

Initial Consultation

Ahead of arranging your first counselling session, you are free to send me an email to schedule an initial free 15-minute discussion over the phone.

It’s important to work safely, so we won’t open up too much on this first call as time is limited. But it does provide a great chance to get a shared initial idea of what you hope to work on, give you a sense of what it’s like to be with me and to ask any further questions about how I work.
